Don't let frizzy hair ruin a rainy day or a weekend at the beach. Not sure how to keep frizz at bay? Fear not, we’ve got some tips for you!

What causes frizzy hair?

The big question: why me!? Knowing why your hair gets frizzy will help you better understand and implement the following tips and tricks.

The main cause of frizz is a lack of moisture and nourishment. If your hair gets frizzy, it's because it's crying out for moisture and when it doesn’t get enough of what it needs, it looks for it outside, absorbing moisture from the air and swelling. Et voilà, frizzy hair!

But everything in life has a solution, so read on and we’ll tell you ours.

Drink plenty of water

As you now know, frizzy hair lacks hydration, causing the hair cuticles to become rough and therefore, more porous, which attracts moisture. The answer: drink water to keep your hair and body hydrated.

Protect your hair from hairdryers and straighteners

Heated appliances such as curlers, hairdryers, straighteners and curling wands apply high temperatures directly to the hair, leaving it dehydrated and more likely to frizz. Therefore, air-drying is recommended in summer.

If you use heated appliances frequently, set them at a medium temperature and apply a heat protector beforehand. Of course, you can always rely on Babaria! Our heat protector not only shields your hair from temperatures up to 230°C, but it also has an anti-frizz action.

Towel-dry, don’t blow-dry

Use a silk or cotton towel to gently pat your hair dry. Never rub your hair to make it dry quickly; this will create static, causing it to frizz, which you want to avoid.

Take a lukewarm shower

We know it may feel like a cold shower, but it's the best thing for your hair and skin. Hot water will dry out your hair, making it more prone to absorb moisture from the air, and guess what? Hot showers generate a lot of steam, so your bathroom will become an all-you-can-eat buffet for frizz.

Care for your hair with nourishing products

When you wash your hair, gently massage your head with a shampoo that’s specially formulated to moisturize your locks. Remember to use conditioner after every wash and apply a hair mask once a week.

Babaria has a specific line for damaged and frizzy hair: Nutritive and Repair. It nourishes the hair and restructures the hair fiber, restoring it to its natural state and repairing damage, while its anti-frizz action also reduces frizz. Here's your shopping list:

What wood is your hairbrush made of?

The material of your hairbrush is important, as metal and plastic can charge your hair with static. For best results, use a wooden comb with natural bristles.

Cut your losses: say goodbye to split ends

Another cause of frizz is badly damaged hair, as it tends to dry out, frizz and become bushy. That's why you should get a trim every two to three months to keep your hair healthy.

Sleep on silk pillowcases

Silk is softer than cotton, flannel or other fabrics, causing less friction to the hair and therefore, less frizz.

Don't give up on your curls

Curly and wavy hair is more prone to frizz. As it has more of a shape than straight locks, sebum doesn't glide as easily to the ends, so it tends to dry out and therefore, become frizzy.

For curly and wavy hair, it’s important to choose the right products for your hair type. At Babaria, we have our Only Curls routine.

Start by washing your hair with Only Curls Control Shampoo for curly or wavy hair. Not only does it define your curls, but it also moisturizes and provides elasticity, reducing frizz.

Once a week, apply our Only Curls Mask from mid-lengths to tips after shampooing. In addition to its anti-frizz action, it deeply moisturizes your hair to combat frizz.

Grandma's home remedies

Finally, let's talk about those old home remedies: tricks based on natural ingredients; the same ones we use to formulate many of our hair care products.

Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing qualities. It keeps the hair strands moisturized and provides softness and nourishment, which is why it’s often recommended for treating frizz.

Argan oil deeply moisturizes the hair and together with aloe, it’s one of the main ingredients in our Hydra and Nutritive Conditioning Balm.

Now you can combat frizz because you know its Achilles heel: proper hydration.
